Downsizing for Peace of Mind
In just one year, this client experienced a series of profound challenges—losing her beloved dog, battling cancer, breaking her leg, suffering a heart attack, and enduring three hurricanes. With a renewed perspective on life, she was ready to release anything that no longer served her—including her home.
The goal: downsize from a 3,100-square-foot house into a smaller, maintenance-free space.
This four-month project began by clearing and organizing the garage to create a functional workspace. From there, we moved room by room, meticulously categorizing and decluttering belongings with the goal of reducing by at least half. Once the home was simplified, we rearranged furniture for optimal flow and brought in a professional stager to give the home a 'wow' factor—using items the client already owned.
In parallel, we toured potential new homes and secured a property that aligned with her needs and goals. With the space finalized, we began the transition—ensuring every item kept would fit the new home and was organized for a smooth, efficient move.
Thanks to a skilled moving team and thoughtful planning, the entire move went off without a hitch. The client was fully unpacked and comfortably settled on day one, with each room in place and the kitchen and pantry stocked. The effort spent organizing in advance made the transition seamless.
After a well-deserved celebration, we completed the transformation by hanging artwork and decor—turning the new space into a true home.
Throughout the project, this client also utilized project coordination and reselling services, which included managing communication and scheduling with landscapers, repair specialists, electricians, air conditioning technicians, and cleaning crews. Additionally, the service covered photographing items, creating listings, and coordinating pickups for Facebook Marketplace sales.
BEFORE: Garage
PHASE 2: Declutter
Once we sorted through all the categories of items, this was the initial pile created to head to a donation center.
PHASE 3: Removal
The first of many trips to donation centers and recycling facilities.
PHASE 4: Space Planning
BEFORE: This guest bedroom was acting more as a personal bedroom that included a desk, pet gear, and personal items on shelving.
AFTER: This bedroom was transformed into a more formal guest bedroom with excess furniture and personal effects being removed.
PHASE 5: PHOTO READY
BEFORE: This instance of the primary bedroom closet was after it had been decluttered and all solid colored shirts were put together.
AFTER: Once a professional stagger had come through, it was recommended to take all of the most bright and patterned clothing together and put them on the same style of hangers for consistency. It made a world of difference in the photos. (Please look past the mismatched hangers on the bottom rung, this photo was taken mid process, hehe)
PHASE 6: PEOPLE READY
To get people ready, we carefully went through the house and found all valuables, organized them, and locked them up in the primary bedroom closet.
PHASE 7: Pack Ready
BEFORE: Bathroom Closet
AFTER: We got all the contents in the bathroom categorized and decluttered. Then organized them into the bathroom closet and simplified the process for when the movers arrived.
PHASE 8: Move Day
Our movers are beyond amazing, showing up on time, packing all house contents, transporting, and then unpacking when we get to the new location.
